Solana’s cryptocurrency and Web3 smartphone, Saga, will be available on Monday, May 8, 2023.Created by OSOM, this Android smartphone is a Web3 applications, and allows users to self-store their crypto assets using the Seed Vault feature.
The Solana Smartphone Saga is ready
Solana Labs, Inc. the company behind the Solana blockchain ecosystem, has announcedthat the Saga smartphonewill be available for purchase on May 8, with pre-orders shipping on April 20. As Solana Mobile’s Twitter account states, the team aims to “modernize the way people interact with their digital assets for improved usability and enhanced security.” The smartphone comes preloaded with several distributed applications (dapps) and runs on the Android 13 operating system.
It comes with Seed Vault for secure storage of crypto assets and offers 512GB of storage; the 6.67-inch OLED display is paired with a fingerprint scanner for added security. The device charges via a USB-C cable and features a dual 50MP and 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera system; Seed Vault ensures protection of private keys with secure hardware and AES encryption, according to the device’s specifications.
The $1,000 Web3 smartphone with the Solana Mobile Stack boasts the Solana Dapp Store, which currently hosts 16 dapps covering NFT, DAO, staking, etc. Solana’s Saga is the first crypto centric phone, but past examples include HTC’s Exodus, the Samsung Galaxy S10’s crypto-integrated native app, and Siren Labs’ $999 Finney blockchain smartphone.
Both the Exodus and Finney concepts have fallen out of favor, but Samsung still offers the Samsung Blockchain Keystore SDK for Android systems. Cupertino-based privacy-first technology companyhas OSOM crafted theSolana Saga phone. Founded by former Essential employee Jason Keats, OSOM recently partneredwith Solana Mobile to close a Series A funding round, raising $25 million on September 9, 2022, according toPitchbook data.
