Metaverse Tech May Change the Gaming Industry, Globant Survey Finds
Gamers’ feelings about metaverse tech and its impact on the future of the industry are shifting toward something more positive. A new survey titled “Metaverse Attitudes Survey,” released by software and technology company Globant in partnership with Yougov, found that gamers believe the topic of the metaverse is justified.
The survey, which also touched on other metaverse-related topics such as NFT, consulted 1,000 gamers about the importance of the metaverse to the interactive entertainment industry. More than half of those surveyed believe that the metaverse and its technology will impact the field, with 41% of this group saying they will do so in a positive way and 25% disagreeing on this issue.
Advertising is also still viewed poorly by gamers in the metaverse, with only 35% comfortable with advertising in these spaces. Only 44% accept advertising in the Metaverse when some kind of reward is associated with it, such as access to an app.
Nicholas Avila, CTO of North American Globant, said:
Through this survey, we learned that although the development of the Metaverse is still in its early stages, U.S. gamers already believe that this technology can expand the realm of gaming possibilities.
Cryptocurrencies and NFTs are still not popular
The survey seems to indicate that there is still a disconnect between the Metaverse and Web3 technologies, as most gamers are still resistant regarding the use of cryptocurrencies and NFTs. According to the survey results, 34% of gamers are interested in managing cryptocurrencies, while nearly half are not at all interested in mixing crypto assets and games.
Similarly, major gaming companies like Ubisoft have begun experimenting with NFT in games, but the concept is still relatively new territory. In a survey, 81% of respondents indicated that they have not yet purchased an NFT.
Also, the meta seems to have the upper hand when it comes to brand association with the metaverse, as 73% of gamers associate the platform with the concept.
