Kanye West Files Trademarks Describing NFT Technology After Denouncing the Digital Collectible Concept

American rapper Ye, aka Kanye West, is entering the world of non-fusible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse, according to a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Record producer company Mascotte Holdings Inc. has filed 17 trademark applications, and part of the trademark summary describes digital collectibles like NFTs.

On Wednesday, Josh Gerben, trademark attorney and founder of Gerben Intellectual Property, tweetedabout rapper and musician Ye and his company Mascotte Holdings filing a new trademark. Gerben stated, ” Kanye West has filed 17 new trademark applications around his YEEZUS name. The applications indicate his intention to launch YEEZUS-branded amusement parks, NFTs, toys, and more.”

Interestingly, West criticized the non-fungible token (NFT) industry in Februaryand is quoted as saying he is only focused on creating real world products.” My focus is on creating real products in the real world. The trademark application to the USPTO was filed on May 27, 2022, according to the trademark brief.

West’s Mascotte Holdings joins a number of well-known brands filing NFT and Metaverse-related trademarks. Companies such as New Balance, Crocs, Urban Outfitters, Wal-Mart, Ralph Lauren, and Abercrombie& Fitch have alsoapplied for NFT and Metaverse-related trademarks. Fitch has alsofiledUSPTO trademarks related to digital collectibles and blockchain technology have also been filed. In addition, many other companies, including Samsung,have filedtrademarks related to blockchain technology. Gap, Adidas {35 Adidas, Nike,Hennessy,The Coca-Cola Company, Pepsi Cola and Pepsi Cola have already released NFT and Metaverse products.
