Binance NFT, a trading platform for unplayable tokens from the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, announced Friday the launch of an NFT collection of soccer club Shakhtar (Donetsk), one of Ukraine’s top professional soccer clubs. Next week, Shakhtar will auction off nine signed jerseys from its “Football for Peace” initiative.

The initiative’s main goal is to support Ukrainian children affected by hostilities in their country by organizing friendly matches and donating the proceeds from ticket sales. The auction will begin May 7 and last for a week, Binance announced on its blog.

“Participants with the highest bids will each receive a limited edition Shakhtar Donetsk T-shirt with the Football for Peace logo,” the trading platform added. The jerseys will be autographed by all Shakhtar players and coaches, including Ukrainian stars Taras Stepanenko, Mykhailo Mudryk and Andriy Pyatov. {In addition, 10,000 NFT Mystery Boxes will be available for sale at 10 BUSD. They will also be available on the Binance NFT Marketplace starting Saturday. Proceeds from the auction and sale of the Mystery Boxes will be donated to the Miner Social Fund and the Binance Charitable Relief Fund. The money will be spent to help Ukrainians in need of humanitarian aid.

“We aim to help Ukrainian society out of the crisis. Blockchain is ideal for this, given the transparency and accountability it provides,” commented Sergei Palkin, CEO of Shakhtar Donetsk soccer club. “During the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, digital assets, including NFT, have played an important role in providing quick, efficient and easy assistance to those in need,” added Helen High, head of Binance NFT.

Since Russia launched its military invasion in late February, Ukraine has increasingly relied on cryptocurrency donations and has already raised millions of dollars in digital coins to fund its defense and humanitarian needs. Members of the cryptocurrency community and other countries have provided or pledged support for these efforts.

Shakhtar was originally based in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, which is now controlled by pro-Russian separatist forces. The military conflict in Donbass forced the soccer club to move its headquarters to Kyiv. Since 2014, Shakhtar has held its home matches in Lviv, Kharkiv, and the Ukrainian capital.
