African users of the Zebedee bitcoin gaming and payment app will be able to earn rewards in the form of Satoshi when they play games or listen to podcasts. In addition to being able to convert their rewards into local currency, African Zebedee app users will also be able to use their rewards for cross-border payments.
Convert Satoshi into local currency
Crypto gaming and payment app Zebedee has announced a partnership with Bitnob, a crypto on/off-ramp platform, that will reward African users with Satoshi every time they play a game or listen to a podcast. Once a sufficient amount of satoshis are accumulated, users will be able to exchange these for local currency in their respective countries.
This new feature is currently only open to users in Nigeria, Kenya, and Rwanda, but Zebedee revealed in an April 12 blog postthat it plans to add more African countries. Besides earning bitcoins, Zebedee app users can also use it to settle cross-border debts.

The company’s blog also explains why Zebedee chose to expand in Africa and how the Bitcoin Lightning Network is the perfect network for cross-border fund transfers.
“The integration with Bitnob is the first step in Zebedee’s expansion into the vast and diverse African continent, but it is only the beginning. We plan to expand our coverage to even more countries supported by Bitnob and many others, eventually providing a complete network of entry and exit points into the global economy through the [Bitcoin] Lightning Network,” the blog post explains.
Fiat Rails “Too High”
The blog post reveals that Zebedee has already launched similar channels in Brazil and the Philippines. The post adds that the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom are the other major regions where Zebedee has opened such channels.
Meanwhile, Ben Cousens, Zebedee’s Chief Strategy Officer, is quoted in onereportexplaining why the Bitcoin Lightning Network is appropriate.
“If I’m Activision Blizzard or EA Games and I have 30 million players in Africa and I offer tournaments and giveaways, I can’t pay those players in fiat money – it’s too expensive. You will be limited to the US and lose money due to loss of engagement. Try sending $0.01 to these regions in another rail,” says Cousen.
