AFP reports that Do Kwon, CEO of Terraform Labs, has been charged in Montenegro with document forgery, while Kwon was traveling with false documents at Podgorica airport. Montenegrin police account of the forged passport in Kwon’s possession
Do Kwon (aka Kwon Do-hyung), co-founder and CEO of Terraform Labs, was arrested Thursday in Montenegro, a mountainous country located in the Balkans of southeastern Europe. The news was first made public on March 23 by Montenegro’s Interior Minister Filip Adzic, who explained that Kwon was arrested at the Podgorica airport with a phony identity card.
Kwon is now charged with forgery in Montenegro, according toreportspublished by AFP on Friday; Kwon was also traveling with an unknown companion, who was also taken into custody. Police in Montenegro detailed that “criminal charges have been filed against both men for the criminal act of document forgery. In addition to the forgery charges, prosecutors want Kwon detained for 30 days because he ostensibly denied that his identity documents were forged.

In addition, Kim Hee-kyung, a spokesman for the Southern Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office, told AFP that the government hopes to extradite Kwon Do-hyun to South Korea. He said, “South Korean prosecutors will take steps to extradite Mr. Kwon Do-hyun. We are working on that procedure,” the spokesperson explained. Kwon Do-hyun also faces a number of lawsuits in the United States, including a recent lawsuit filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Montenegrin police noted that Kwon and his companion had “forged travel” documents of Costa Rican origin and that the two were about to fly to Dubai. They also said that luggage checks showed that they also had travel documents from South Korea and Belgium. Montenegro’s Ministry of Interior stated that Kwon’s Belgian identity papers were also forged documents; the names of Kwon’s travel companions have not yet been released.
