microsoft edge crypto wallet

Software conglomerate Microsoft has introduced an Ethereum-based cryptocurrency wallet in a test version of its Edge web browser. The new feature, discovered by software sleuth Albacore, is named “Crypto Wallet” and will allow users to store and trade Ethereum and Ethereum-based tokens on a non-custodial basis, acting like a meta-mask clone.

Microsoft Introduces Ethereum Wallet in Edge Browser

Cryptocurrency and Web3 projects are making inroads into mainstream software products. According to a report from software researcher Albacore (18), Microsoft is currently developing a native wallet as part of its Edge web browser. Called a “crypto wallet,” the new feature will allow users to trade and store Ethereum and Ethereum-based tokens in a non-custodial manner.

In the screenshot, Microsoft reviews the status of the project and warns testers about the dangers of using funds in this wallet. It states.

As a tester, you will be using your own funds. In the unlikely event that you lose your funds, Microsoft will not reimburse you for any losses. This project is confidential and details must not be divulged to outside parties.

This confirms that this wallet is still in the early testing stages and is not ready for public use.

This new native crypto wallet, when eventually released, will be a native competitor to Metamask, the most used wallet add-on for Web3, with the particularity that it will be native to Edge.

Bleeping Computer, the portal that tested the wallet, reports that it was able to confirm that the wallet supports different Ethereum accounts and allows users to switch between them at will, allowing it to be used in already existing Web3 apps Web3 app. The wallet also has a built-in Ethereum exchange, supportingETHand DAI, UNI, USDC,

USDT.

The strings present in the software suggest that a bitcoin wallet will be included at a later date, but that functionality does not yet exist. Microsoft did not confirm the existence of a crypto wallet. A company spokesperson said,:

Microsoft regularly tests new features and explores new experiences for our customers. We welcome your feedback, but we have nothing further to share at this time.

Microsoft has been very active in supporting Web3-related projects, including participating in the establishment of the Metaverse standard and introducing Metaverse functionality in the Teams app, even if recent layoffs have affected some of these projects
