After the initial incident on February 25, Solana resolved the blockchain performance degradation after validators decided to restart the network. downtime of over 24 hours. In a later report of the outage, Solana developers detailed that “the root cause is still unknown and under active investigation.”
Social media mocked Solana’s 10th downtime, while supporters defended the project
Solana is facing renewed criticism after the blockchain network experienced its 10th downtimeon February 25 and the following day. The network was widely ridiculed on social media and forums, including r/cryptocurrency. In one forum thread, userwroteGiving second chances is one thing I can get behind. On the other hand, an 11th chance is beyond delusional.” Additionally, people madejokesabout Solana’s bumpy restart, and on the Discord server, verifiers discussed adding their phone numbers to receive text messages about future restarts.
Bitcoin.com News reported on the first downtime after the Solana Status webpage disclosed a problem with “cluster instability.” The incident was not resolved until February 26, 2023 at 2:09 UTC. Some criticscalled this and previous downtime issues“design flaws,” while othersfavored shorting Solana(SOL). Despite the significant downtime, Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko defended the project, stressingthat “Solana wants to be fast and super secure.”Solana-based liquid staking project Brandon Tucker, growth lead for Marinade Finance, said that future upgrades will significantly reduce these stoppages.
“Rebooting the chain is never welcome, but it’s not a major setback.” Tucker said in a message sent to Bitcoin.com News.” Indeed, despite the uproar, it is similar to the other five outages we have seen over the past 12-18 months. Ultimately, it is good that the validator community has spontaneously rallied and started updating and restarting the chain in real time; Solana is trying to do what other chains have not done with regard to throughput and decentralization, and the road to get there is not straight – especially since the other Marinade Finance executives added, “Especially when it’s already being used by more people than any other chain.
