Ruja Ignatova, founder of the crypto pyramid Onecoin, may have been murdered in Greece a year after her disappearance. According to an article citing а leaked report from a police informant, the “missing crypto queen” was murdered on a yacht in the Ionian Sea more than four years ago.

According to the Bulgarian Bureau for Investigative Reporting and Data (Bird.bg) website, the woman who founded the notorious Ponzi scheme Onecoin has been dead since November 2018. This conclusion is based on evidence obtained in the investigation of the murder of a former police officer in Sofia last year.
The former head of the criminal police in the Bulgarian capital was shot in March 2022. According to an informant’s report found in а safe in his home, Ruža Ignatova was killed on a yacht in the Ionian Sea and his body was dismembered and thrown overboard. The execution was carried out on the orders of a drug lord,the publicationclaims.
However, in an email responding to an inquiry from Byrd, the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office explained that the said report does not constitute a document in the context of the Code of Criminal Procedure because it is not signed by a specific person and has no information about its author.
The communication further notes that since the “quoted paper” was seized from the residence of the murdered person, it is impossible to verify the circumstances described by questioning the witness.
Launched in 2014 as a multi-level marketing network based on fake cryptocurrencies, Onecoin is believed to have defrauded more than 3 million investors worldwide out of more than $4 billion. Ignatova, a Bulgarian-born German national, was last seen at the Athens airport on October 25, 2017, arriving on a flight from Sofia. This past October, the BBC reported that she had been warned about a police investigation.
Dubbed the “missing cryptocoon,” Ignatova is wanted by Interpol, Europol, and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Previous reports have also speculated that she may have been murdered or that she is alive and well with plastic surgery to change her appearance.In July 2022, the Greek press revealed that the police, upon receiving information that Ignatova was in the country, attempted to capture her Ignatova was arrested by the police.
Her brother and co-founder Constantine was detained in Los Angeles in 2019 and pleaded guilty to Onecoin-related charges while seeking witness protection in the United States, and another co-founder, Carl Sebastian Greenwood, a Swedish and British national, also in December 2022 pleaded guilty. Last week, news broke that Ruja’s former boyfriend, Gilbert Armenta, was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in laundering proceeds.
