Square Enix to Use Polygon’s Network in Symbiogenesis, Its Upcoming Web3 Experience

Japanese game developer Square Enix announced in November the development of Symbiogenesis, a Web3-based experience provided an update on the The company revealed that it will use Polygon, an EVM-compatible sidechain, to support some of the game’s blockchain elements.

The game will feature multiple art non-fundable tokens (NFTs) as part of the story, centered around mission fulfillment and resource collection on a land called the Floating Continent. Naoyuki Tamate, producer at Square Enix, had this to say about the use of Polygon’s network in this game.

Square Enix has chosen to leverage Polygon’s fast transactions, low gas prices, and overall ease of use to bring this unique experience to Web3 fans.

Square Enix had previously stated that it would use Ethereum as part of the game’s structure. However, it revealed viaTwitterthat the game utilities will use Polygon’s blockchain, while the NFT collectible art component will use Ethereum.

Web3 Gaming is Still Relevant

While some blockchain gaming trends have experienced significant downfalls as part of the recent cryptocurrency market turmoil, such as the play-to-earn model, the potential that decentralized structures bring to the gaming experience Some companies still believe in it.

Symbiosis will ostensibly be the first AAA game designed from the ground up with blockchain elements, but this is not Square Enix’s first dance with blockchain. The company is currently serving as a validator for Oasys, a game-oriented Web3 blockchain initiative. In January, the company also announced that it is developing several original IP blockchain games and is poised to release more this year.
