On February 14, 2023, Salvadoran Ambassador to the United States Milena Mayorga announced that her country is considering opening a second bitcoin embassy in the Lone Star State. Mayorga said Texas is “our newest ally” and that its goal is to expand “commercial and economic exchange projects.”
Ambassador Milena Mayorga fosters a growing relationship between El Salvador and Texas
This week, Salvadoran Ambassador to the United States Milena Mayorga described her recent meeting with Texas Secretary of State Joe Esparza. Mayorga said that officials are looking into the possibility of opening a second bitcoin embassy in the state. She noted that discussions have already taken place with authorities in Lugano, Switzerland, regarding the idea of a similar bitcoin embassy.
“Texas, our new ally,” Mayorgatweeted. “Meeting with Joe Esparza, Deputy Secretary of Texas State Government … discussed opening a second (Bitcoin) embassy and expanding commercial and economic exchange projects.”
Ambassador Salvador’s proposal comes after El Salvador approved its Digital Asset Issuance Law in January 2023 and after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its recent mission statement on El Salvador’s economy. the IMF said El Salvador’s adoption of bit It noted that the slow and gradual introduction of coins has allowed the country to avoid cryptocurrency-related risks. This development also follows Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele’s comments regarding disinformation in the media.
El Salvador’s Finance Minister Alejandro Zelaya responded to the claims made by some national and international media on Twitter, tweeting. ‘El Salvador has fulfilled its debt. On this day, we announce that we have completed the payment of $800 million of the 2023 bond plus interest.”
In his Twitter thread, Salvadoran Ambassador Mayorga noted that Texas Secretary of State Joe Esparza had a positive view of the relationship between El Salvador and Texas in terms of commercial and economic exchanges, noting that the two exchanged $1,244,683 in 2022.
