Nigeria’s security agency, the Department of State (DSS), He has reportedly instructed his operatives to arrest Nigerian Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele as soon as he appears in public. The DSS is still aiming to arrest Emefiele, despite losing a bid to have the arrest sanctioned by a Nigerian court.
Nigerian court refuses to support arrest plan
As the controversy surrounding the failed arrest of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiere continues to be in the spotlight, Sahara Reporters said Nigerian State Department (DSS) operatives had orders to “arrest him on sight.” Additionally, according to reports based on the testimony of unnamed sources, the operative said he was also monitoring movements at CBN headquarters and at the Emefiere family residence in Lagos.
As described in the report, DSS’s unconfirmed plan to arrest his Emefiele was part of Muhammadu Buhari’s entourage to the US-Africa Summit and the Nigerian High Court Judge John Tsoho rejected a security agency bid to arrest the CBN governor. In his ruling, Tsokh reportedly accused the DSS of trying to use deceptive lawsuits to “deprive a person [Emefiele] of his liberty,”.
Opponents of CBN’s cashless policy want Emefile removed
