The TikTok social media platform is expanding to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with a new series of trendy music videos to become its first creator-led NFT collection.
Named TikTok Top Moments, the tokens will be made available on Ethereum (ETH) and supported by Immutable X, the first Layer 2 scaling solution for NFTs on the blockchain, the company said.
TikTok Top Moments “includes a selection of six culturally significant TikTok videos from some of our most popular creators,” the platform said. “Each one-of-one NFT celebrates the impact of these creators. Made progress in entertainment, culture, and the TikTok community.”
The creators”, known for their creative cultural impact,” work with prominent NFT creators such as COIN ARTIST, x0r, RTFKT, and Grimes on limited edition NFTs.
Most of the proceeds will go directly to the makers and artists involved, according to the statement.
These are the six videos to go on sale as NFTs on October 6:
Lil Nas X x Rudy_Willingham
The drop celebrates the single Montero (Call Me By Your Name) by US rapper Lil Nas X. The track made waves due to its queer themes and shot the song, described by Billboard Magazine as a “flamenco-like track with a subtle trap beat”, to number one on the release’s Hot 100 chart.
“RUDY Willingham’s TikTok tribute to Lil Nas X is a hypnotic kaleidoscope of color and sound that captured the attention of millions, including Lil Nas X herself. Each of the 81 frames contains Willingham’s signature clippings, photographed against a background that reflects a different part of LNX’s genius,” TikTok said.
CurtisRoach x COIN ARTIST
Rapper Curtis Roach defined a unique quarantine period with a memorable 15-second TikTok video, teaming up with NFT creator COIN ARTIST on her first music-inspired drop.
FNMeka x RTFKT
Robot rapper FNMeka has amassed an audience of 10 million followers on TikTok with videos like “Can You Guess What I Cook”. For this NFT, the robot works with Virtual Shoe and Collectible Creator RTFKT.
Gary Vaynerchuk x JessssTheMess x x0r
TikTok star Jess Marciante, famous for her videos that are “living-rent free in her head”, Gary Vaynerchuk and x0r are collaborating on an NFT that celebrates the most stitched video on Tiktok.
BellaPoarch x Grimes
Filipino-American social media personality and singer Bella Poarch and Canadian artist Grimes are collaborating on a project where “IRL friends help each other penetrate the next big room.”
Brittany_Broski x Grimes
Brittany Broski, also known as “Kombucha Girl”, is working with Grimes, who broke expectations with a USD 6m NFT series whose proceeds will go to charity.
