LATAM office workers find metaverse-based tools useful

After the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies changed their working conditions, resulting in an increase in remote work. A recent surveyby Ciena, a network software company, found that Latam office workers are particularly open to incorporating these technologies into their workplaces.

The study, which surveyed 15,000 business professionals in 15 regions including Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico, found that nearly 60% would consider working on a virtual metaverse platform. Similarly, more than 50% believe that collaboration can be achieved in an easier way using virtual platforms than face-to-face.

There are different reasons behind this belief in different countries. In Mexico, the rationale is that they believe there is less potential for distraction when using these tools. In Colombia and Brazil, these tools are believed to help the economies of the companies that use them.

more discoveries, perceived limitations

There is also a greater understanding that work trends will change in the not-too-distant future. Forty percent of those surveyed by Latam believe that the workplace will begin to shift from traditional to more virtual/immersive locations over the next two years. This percentage is higher than comparable percentages in other parts of the world.

The metaverse is also seen as a useful tool for non-work purposes. In Colombia, 63% of respondents in the survey determined that they use virtual platforms for learning and educational purposes. In Mexico, 60% would use these platforms for socializing, and in Brazil, 69% would use these platforms for online gaming.

However, those surveyed are also aware of the limitations of these tools and their dependence on infrastructure and services. In Mexico and Brazil, more than 40% expressed concern about network reliability for this type of application. Another concern is the relative ignorance of the implementation and use of these tools in the work environment.

The findings are consistent with another survey released in May by the World Economic Forum. This survey found that Latin American countries have a higher appreciation of the Metaverse than the rest of the world.
