Funko is partnering with multinational retailer Wal-Mart and US film and entertainment studio Warner Brothers to bring digital collectibles to the retail space, the the pop culture collectibles company announced Wednesday. According to Funko, the digital collectibles are consumer-friendly because they allow fans to purchase non-fundable tokens (NFTs) and physical collectibles at the same time.

a company well known for creating unique bobbleheads and vinyl figurines,Funko(Nasdaq: FNKO) has announced a partnership with entertainment company Warner Brothers and retail giant Wal-Mart. According to FNKO, the company will bring NFT into the retail space with a digital pop series featuring DC’s “The Brave and the Bold” #28 (1959) Comic Cover Pop. The collection features the Justice League battling Starro and will be available exclusively on Walmart.com on October 7.
The new Funko Digital Pop will debut at Walmart Collector Con, where the company says 30,000 units will be available. This includes the NFT and “its physical twin counterpart,” Funko explained Wednesday. Funko has been in the non-fiat token (NFT) space for quite some time and recently partnered with entertainment company Paramount to launch the “Avatar Legends” NFT.
The company has partnered with many well-known brands, and its Digital Pop series features cult classics such as Jay and Silent Bob, as well asDC Comics characters; it has featured characters from DC Comics. Andrew Perlmutter, CEO of Funko, said the Pop Culture Collectibles company is excited to bring its newest Digital Pop NFT to the retail space Perlmutter said, “We are excited to offer the world’s largest mass market retailer this market-first We are excited to be able to offer this first-to-market opportunity.” CEO Funko added,
This is an opportunity to create an easy entry point for shoppers to own digital collectibles of fan-favorite brands and characters.
Funko is not the first company to bring NFTs to the retail space, nor is it the first to bring them to Walmart. at the end of February 2021, trading card, candy, and collectibles company Topps will launch physical cards and Garbage Pail Kids (GPK) NFTs, which could be found in packs of GPK cards sold at Walmart and Target retail stores at the time.
Last month, luxury jewelry and specialty retailer Tiffany & Co& Co. launched a crypto-punk pendant of jewelry associated with NFT. Co. launched a crypto-punk pendant with jewelry tied to the NFT.In August 2021, the NBA Top Shot Collection was offered to fans who visited the Top Shot vendor’s kiosk at last year’s NBA Summer League game. Josh Hackbarth, NFT commercial development director for Warner Bros. detailed that the latest Funko Digital Pop offering at Walmart should reach a wider market.
“Bringing this new collection of digital collectibles to retailers allows for an even wider reach and invites fans – both avid collectors and those entering this realm for the first time – the opportunity to engage with a beloved franchise, like DC, in physical and digital,” Hackbarth said in a statement.The Brave and the Bold series, published by DC Comics in the 1950s, features a team of well-known DC characters from the comics.
