Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Hints at Web3 Integration

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov hinted at a series of Web3 extensions coming to the popular messaging platform. names and channel links could have in the future, and spoke of creating a marketplace where users could use them in the same way that Ethereum Name Service addresses are used.

Telegram may receive Web3 enhancements

Digital companies are beginning to understand the benefits that Web3, NFT, and user-driven digital marketplaces may bring to their operations. Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, one of the most popular messaging services related to crypto, has suggested integrating some of Web3’s services into its platform.

Durov reviewed the success of a recent domain nameauctionon the TON network, which Telegram dropped in 2020 after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requested an injunction against the sale of alleged unregistered securities platform.

Durov stated.

If TON was able to achieve these results, imagine how successful Telegram with 700 million users could be if they auctioned off reserved @usernames, groups and channel links.

In the aforementioned auction, domains such as bank.ton and casino.ton also sold for high prices.

Reuse TON

With the creation of the Web3 Marketplace, users who currently own a Telegram username can sell this digital asset to interested third parties and receive payment, just as NFT can sell and receive payment for this digital asset, just as NFTs can sell it. This also applies to group names, whose identities may be purchased by companies or interested third parties. Sticker packs and emojis might also be included in this proposed marketplace.

Durov explained that since this concept was originally designed by Telegram, the company already has knowledge of the system’s smart contract structure and could quickly build on top of the TON network. Durov explained this possibility by saying.

When it comes to scalability and speed, TON probably has the best technology for hosting such distributed sales… We are eager to try TON as a foundational blockchain for future markets.

Durov did not provide details on this, but he did mention that this update could arrive in the coming weeks. Telegram has already integrated TON into its platform and users have been able to send TON coins, the currency of the TON network, in chats since last May.
