ETH PoS Upgrade to Transition on September 15 to 16 — Ethereum Devs Reveal ‘Tentative Mainnet TTD’ for The Merge

Following the successful implementation of The Merge into Ethereum’s Goerli testnet, Ethereum developers confirmed during the Consensus Layer Call live stream that the much anticipated Proof After the Ethereum network’s Total Terminal Difficulty (TTD) reached 587500000000000000000, the chain, which started as a proof-of-work (PoW ) chain, which started as a blockchain, will be fully transitioned to a PoS blockchain.

The merge will have a new execution date

Major changes lie ahead for Ethereum, and in Consensus Layer Call #93, Ethereum developers confirmed that The Merge will take place when the network’s TTD reaches 5875000000000000000000000. Tim Beiko , a blockchain developer and member of the Ethereum Foundation, tweetedthe TTD number following the call, which was streamedonYoutube.

The news follows Ropsten and Sepolia’s adaptation before Goerli, and follows The Merge’s successful merge into the network’s Goerli testnet. when Ethereum’s TTD tapped 10790000, The Merge was added to the third and final test net; The Merge was assumed to take place the week of September 19, but once the TTD reached 58750000000000, it was assumed that The Merge would take place on the main net around September 15-16.

Currently, there is still a PoW hash rate of 1 petahash per second dedicated to theblockchain, ETH blockchain, and hash power going to Ethereum Classic (ETC). There is an assumption that it will go to The Merge, but an alternative PoW fork has been announced for when The Merge is implemented. The hashrate splits into two factions, one possibly favoringETCand the other proposing a PoW Ethereum network called ETHW.

Of course, Beiko’s tweet and the number 587500000000000000000 started trending on social networking sites on Thursday with people happy that a date has been set: the Ethereum upgrade called Bellatrix will take place on September It is expected to take place around the 6th, and The Merge will finally go live following that change.Tim Beiko addedto. “Tentative mainnet TTD #585” to the blockchain Github repo, and ethereum developers are expected to convene for a meeting onAugust 18, 2022.
