UK Parliamentary Group Seeks Views of Crypto Industry Players

Making the UK the “global home of crypto investment”

A United Kingdom (UK) parliamentary committee known as the Crypto and Digital Assets All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) said it recently launched an investigation into the country’s crypto and digital assets sector. The study will focus on the country’s current approach to the regulation of crypto and digital assets. It will also examine the UK government’s plans to make the country the “global home of crypto investment.” In a

statement, theparliamentary group said it will hold several evidence sessions in the coming months. In addition to gathering evidence through public meetings, the APPG said it is open to input from players in the sector, including crypto operators, regulators and industry experts.

After the hearing period is over, the APPG said it will prepare a report with “key recommendations and share the findings with the government for consideration.” The report will also be shared with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance.

A critical time for the crypto industry

Lisa Cameron, Chair of the Crypto and Digital Assets APPG, said of the launch of this investigation.

The crypto sector in the UK has seen an increase in the number of people owning some form of cryptocurrency or digital asset in recent years, and interest from consumers and regulators. This comes at an important time for the sector, as policy makers around the world are also rethinking their approach to crypto and how it is regulated.

Cameron added that the group will also look at concerns about financial crime and advertising in the UK crypto sector; the APPG will further examine steps taken by regulators from other jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, the group’s statement said that submissions by individuals and organizations wishing to express their views must be emailed before September 5. The statement also clarifies that the APPG will “accept relevant reports and findings as part of the written submission as an appendix.”
