Metaverse Background

Samsung is involved in several software experiences with a gaming and entertainment bent. The company is actively developing a series of projects with key partners in this area. One of these is the NFT platform, launched in partnership with Nifty Gateway, a popular marketplace for NFT, which will allow Samsung to offer its NFT through its smart TVs.

The company has also invested in groups focused primarily on developing metaverse-based platforms; in April, it participated in a Series A funding round for Doubleme, a South Korean metaverse company. Similarly, the company launched its own store on Decentraland, one of the most popular metaverses, in January.

However, the company has not announced dedicated hardware to support these experiences, preferring to focus on the software side. While virtual and augmented reality are generally associated with the metaverse, there is still some skepticism as to what the concept actually encompasses.
