The Ukrainian government has sold Cryptopunk NFTs donated several months ago to aid the war-torn country. The tokens were purchased by an unidentified buyer who spent more than $100,000 in Ethereum for collectibles, the country’s Ministry of Digital Transformation said.

NFT, Cryptopunk #5364, was donated to the Aid for Ukraine crypto fundraising campaign in early March. At the time, Bornyakov tweeted that it was worth 56 ETH, but the price of Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies was significantly higher before the latest crypto market downturn.
The Eastern European country, a former Soviet republic, was invaded by its much larger neighbor, Russia, in the early hours of February 24. Kiev’s government and many volunteer organizations have since come to rely more and more on encrypted donations, including from the NFT. The country has already raised millions of dollars to fund defense and humanitarian efforts.

The global crypto community continues to support Ukraine, Alex Bornyakov noted in a tweet Monday, announcing the sale of tokens from the Cryptopunk collection.” Just want to thank the crypto community for such a generous donation,” Mykhailo Fedorov, who also serves as Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, tweeted Tuesday.
