Meta Launches Metaverse Digital Clothing Store

Meta announced the launch of a designer digital clothing store in its Metaverse where users can purchase clothing for their avatars. The company believes that clothing and other accessories can become an important part of a user’s identity expression and entice them to spend money on digital clothing that can be worn on all of Meta’s apps, including Facebook and Instagram.

Meta to Sell Metaverse Clothing

With the rise of the Metaverse, companies are beginning to capture industries such as clothing as they focus on the revenue generated by Metaverse users’ desire for expression. One such company is Meta, which recentlyannounced the launch of a digital clothing store called the “Meta Avatars Store,”where users can purchase various brands of clothing to dress their metaverse avatars.

The store, which will roll out in various markets starting this week, will sell digital designs by Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne and will be available to Meta avatars on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Prices for each of the garments available have not yet been revealed.

Meta’s digital bets

Meta’s bets are simple. The company believes that the metaverse will grow significantly in the coming years, and with it, the need for these digital items. That’s why the company pivoted to a metaverse-driven business earlier this year. The relevance of these items, said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, is as follows.

Digital goods are an important way to express yourself in the Metaverse and will be a major driver of the creative economy. I am excited to add more brands and bring this into VR soon.

Regarding VR, Zuckerberg is likely referring to Horizon Worlds, Meta’s flagship Metaverse app and only available to owners of Meta’s Quest line of VR headsets. Users of this platform will also be able to wear these digital items in Horizon Worlds.

{But according to experts, the meta voyage to entice users to step into the metaverse will not be an easy one. Zuckerberg already recognizes that this early pivot to the metaverse will come at a cost; in May he said the change would result in “a significant amount of loss” over the next three to five years.
